Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response provides policy, guidance, and direction for EPA's hazardous waste and emergency response programs. The functions of these programs include development of policies, standards, and regulations for hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal; national management of the Superfund toxic waste cleanup program; development of guidelines for the emergency preparedness and "Community Right To Know" programs; development of guidelines and standards for underground storage tanks; enforcement of applicable laws and regulations; analysis of technologies and methods for the recovery of useful energy from solid waste; and provision of technical assistance in the development, management, and operation of waste management activities.
